GILPIN FIRST IN UMP MODS - HECK TOPS PCRA LATE MODELS

Posted June 10, 2013

Haubstadt, IN - June 8, 2013.  Devin Gilpin captured the Summit Dirt
Car UMP Modified Nationals held Saturday night at the Tri-State
Speedway.  The victory was worth $3,000 to the Columbus, IN, driver.
Sponsors for the race were Lucas Oil Center, Ted Brown Quality Paint
and Body, Willy's Carbs, and Clippinger Financial Group.
The feature win was Gilpin's 11th feature win in a row this season on
the circuit.  Despite the great start this season the defending UMP
National Champion may have surprised himself.  "I had no idea in
coming to Haubstadt that we could win this race.  Our stats here are
not that good!  This Impressive Race Car has been awesome all season
long."
The entire 40 lap Summit UMP Modifed feature was awesome.  The 22 car
starting field was strong and tested through qualifications, six
heats, 2 C's, and a B Main.  Gilpin started sixth in the Dasco Race
Supply, A-1 sponsored mod.  Fast qualifier Levi Kissinger started on
the pole and he proved to be the one to catch and then hold off.
Gilpin had worked his way up to second when the first and only
caution flew on lap 12.  Gilpin made his move 5 laps later.
Kissinger not only hung on he worked traffic equally well and was
poised for a final chance as the two cars crossed the finish line.
Bryce Jewell finished a strong third with a steady eye on the
leaders.  Tyler Nicely was fourth.  Zach Fair finished fifth after a
race long battle to move up in a pack of cars that included Trent
Young, Everett Bradham, Kenny Schrader, Michael Fox, and Dave Beck.
Those 5 drivers finished sixth through tenth in that order.
The six qualifying heats were won by Levi Kissenger, Bryce Jewell,
Clayton Miller, Kenny Schrader, Devin Gilpin, and Mike Harrison.
Harrison was one of four former National champions that made the
feature.  The two C Mains were won by Will Krup and Steven Brooks.
Trent Young won the eighteen car B Main.
Aaron Heck dominated the Pro Crate Late Model feature.  The Mt.
Vernon, IL, driver led throughout the 25 lap event to take the $1,000
top prize.  After a spin back in the pack on the initial start, the
race went green and stayed green.  Troy English would finish second
but had fallen a straightaway behind the leader by the 15th lap.
Bobby Dauderman was third with Chad Zobrist and Kevin Cole rounding
out the top five.  The PCRA Late Model Series  was making it's first
appearance ever at Tri-State Speedway but several of the drivers were
not.
Winner Aaron Heck was happy to be standing in victory lane at
Tri-State.  "I've been coming here since I was 8 years old.  I
watched a lot of laps here."  Now he has a win at Haubstadt, one of
some 10 victories posted this season.  "It was a pretty good track.
It was the best track I have run on all season."
Heck and Evan Taylor won the two PCRA heat races.  All twenty cars
started the feature although some repairs were necessary following
the close heat race action.
Tri-State Speedway will be racing again Saturday night June 15th
featuring the MSCS Sprints and the MOWA Winged Sprints.  The
Modifieds will be in action again on July 7th during the UMP Late
Model Summernationals.  The Mods will be running for $1,000 to win
that night.  This will be a second stop at Haubstadt during the 29
race long Summit Modified Nationals.
