WEBER GRABS SUMMERNATIONALS LATE MODEL VICTORY

Posted July 10, 2012

Haubstadt, IN - July 8, 2012.  Scott Weber of Festus, MO, snatched a
victory in UMP Dirt Car Summernationals competition Sunday night at
Tri-State Speedway.  Weber's presence in the 29 car field became
evident early on when he ran second to Scott James in the third heat
for the super late models.  James was among the top 30 drivers on the
tour while Weber was making an infrequent appearance.
The two would battle again in the feature.  James started on the pole
and Weber started sixth.  James took the lead in the feature as Weber
began challenging the force gathering at the front of the pack.  As
Shannon Babb battled Summer nationals point leader Brian Shirley for
second Weber moved up into fourth.  He managed to get by both drivers
with just four laps remaining in the 40 lap event.  They were part of
a formidable lead pack that included four of the top five in points
for the Hell Tour.  Weber needed to gain just one more spot and on
the last lap he passed James to take the victory.  Weber was driving
the Kehrer Affordable Roofing sponsored late model.  The win was
worth $5,000!
Weber characterized his feature run as riding along.  He was looking
for opportunities.  It was one of  action & reaction!  "I may have
pinched Shannon Babb a little bit but understand that I was trying to
go for it.  When I passed Shannon I realized that I also had a shot
at the lead."  Scott James finished second in the feature followed by
Shirley, Babb, and Brandon Sheppard.  The second five included Ryan
Unzicker, NASCAR driver Austin Dillon, Randy Korte, Rodney Melvin,
and Jason McBride.
Brandon Sheppard and Brian Shirley won heat races along with James.
Dillon White of Crofton, KY, took the B-Main.  Hot laps and
qualifications were delayed by light showers that drifted across the
speedway.  And racing continued despite intermittent sprinkles during
the evening.
The UMP Open Wheel Modified division raced as part of the Summitt
Racing Equipment Modified Nationals.  The 25 lap feature paid a
thousand dollars to win.  Circumstances combined to produce a record
setting 54 car field and spectators witnessed the strongest field of
drivers to compete this season at the track.
Michael Fox took the Modified feature.  "I had a really good car!
And I finally got a win here.  It is the biggest race I've ever won.
I knew I had to hit the marks, stay on the bottom, and go fast."
Despite the depth of the field three cars broke away from most of the
pack.  Fox took the lead from Stephen Schnapf in a side by side
battle and then continued to lead with Stan Beadles eventually
capturing second.  Schnapf finished third followed by Matt Mevert and
Larry Anderson.  Mevert worked the high side to an advantage in
moving up.
The five heat winners during the program were Schnapf, Anderson, Fox,
Josh Harris, and Zach Dennis.  Paul Miles and Tyler Diebert won the
two twelve lap B-mains.  NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace also competed
with the modifieds posting a third place finish in his heat and a
ninth in the feature.
The next event at Tri-State Speedway will be the final night of USAC
Indiana Sprint Week which is Saturday July 21st.  The UMP Modifieds
will also be on the program.  See the Indiana Sprint Week Champion
crowned at Tri-State Speedway after seven nights of racing at seven
Indiana tracks!
