BLAKE FITZPATRICK WINS IN MSCS RUN AT TRI-STATE

(Haubstadt, IN - Sept. 5, 2010) Blake Fitzpatrick of West Terre Haute, IN, picked up his first feature win in MSCS competition Sunday night at Tri-State Speedway. He took the lead from Hunter Schuerenberg on lap 29. Schuerenberg had lead the race from the outset after starting on the front row outside of Brady Short. Short would finish third in a contest in which Schuerenberg and Fitzpatrick were able to break away early. A yellow flag on lap 15 closed the pack for a restart. Schuerenberg actually capitalized on the restart and gained some racing room. Fitzpatrick caught him as traffic once again became a factor in the 30 lapper. The last few laps was a Tri-State side by side shootout.

Blake Fitzpatricks sprint is owned by John Fitzpatrick with Bubby Jones serving as the crew chief. First Financial Bank is the primary sponsor. When asked about his trip to victory lane Fitzpatrick noted that it felt pretty good. Fitzpatrick has been in victory lane somewhere in Indiana six times in the last seven weeks beginning with an Indiana Sprint Week victory at Tri-State Speedway. He continued, Lapped traffic is what happened tonight plus this new car was working real good. I just hope the victories keep coming!

Rounding out the top five in the MSCS feature were Critter Malone and MSCS points leader Chase Stockon. They turned in steady performances. Neither driver gave up a position. Stockon was not able to pass Malone and drivers behind the pair could not move forward to pass either of them. The top five was a race within itself. One driver made substantial progress though. Kyle Cummins was the Hard Charger of the Race. He started sixteenth after winning the B-Main and finished sixth. Seventh through tenth places went to Rookie Jonathan Hendrick, Kevin Thomas Jr., Jeff Bland Jr., and Braylon Fitzpatrick.

The Wilwood Tuff Brakes Award went to Adam Nigg who finished eleventh. In preliminary action three heat races were held for the 28 entries. Blake Fitzpatrick, Hunter Schuerenberg, and Chase Stockon were the clear winners with the closest racing occurring between drivers in second and on back to the final transfer spot.

The next Midwest Sprint Car Series races are scheduled for Sept 17th and 18th. That weekend MSCS will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary. The Fall Clash at Bloomington Speedway on Friday will pay $5,000 to win and the Haubstadt Hustler Sprint 50 on that Saturday will pay $10,000 to win. There will also be a special drawing with over $2,000 in prizes. To be eligible to win one of the weekend promotional prizes a driver must be present to race at both shows. More details will be released later! ____________________

In UMP Open Wheel Modified racing Will Krup took the 25 lap A-Main. It was his first feature win at the speedway this season. Dave Beck, Paul Miles, Everett Bradham, and Bradley Sterrett followed the Mt. Carmel, IL, driver under the checkers. Robert Smith won the B-Main. Beck, Bradham, and Krup took the 3 qualifying heats for the 24 competitors. The modifieds will be on the race card again on September 18th.

HEADING TOWARD THE 2010 FINISH LINE

Haubstadt, IN - August 13, 2010. Two thirds of the 2010 racing season at Tri-State Speedway has already become recent headlines and just 4 more events remain in the offering. No racing will occur at the popular quarter mile dirt track in August. Racing will return with a big program as usual on Labor Day Weekend with the ever competitive Midwest Sprint Car Series drivers in the house for a $3,000 to win show. That will be on Sunday night September 5th with the first heat taking the green flag at 7:30 P.M.

This will mark the seventh consecutive year that the MSCS sprints have been the Labor Day weekend attraction at Haubstadt. That will then leave three more events at Tri-State Speedway this season headlined by differing groups and comprised of six or more types of cars. All three promise to top a 54th and outstanding season by providing unique if not last opportunities for fans with varied interests to see the best competitors the racing entertainment dollar can provide.

The Haubstadt Hustler Sprint 50 is set for Saturday night September 18th. This third annual event will once again pay $10,000 to the winner. It will be the last appearance of the season at Tri-State for the MSCS Sprints. Jeff Bland Jr. won the very first Haubstadt Hustler Sprint 50. Bryan Clauson is the defending champion having won it in 2009.

The next Sunday afternoon the annual Demolition Derby and Enduro will be held with an early starting time of one o’clock. This program on September 26th involves an entire afternoon of demo action and non-stop racing of interest to the entire family. Full-fendered cars of all sizes will be participating. Drivers at all experience levels will be behind the wheel. Those interested in participating or building a car can find rules and any other updates on the track website by visiting www.tristatespeedway.com.

The season will not end until October 16. It is then that the World of Outlaws will make their annual stop at the facility. Winged sprint car fans will not be disappointed! The race was originally scheduled for April 24th of this year but rained out. The new date is Saturday October 16th. By then the outlaws will only have 3 dates left on their schedule and the race will rate as a decisive Midwest encounter for the top drivers before the season points battle plays out in the South. Steve Kinser was the winner the last time the outlaws raced at Haubstadt.

The UMP Open Wheel Modifieds will be on the card for the races on September 5, September 18, and October 16. So far nearly 60 different modified race teams have tried their luck on the high banks at Tri-State Speedway. In the 7 feature races held there have been 6 different winners! Nine of the top 30 UMP Modifed drivers in the country have raced at Tri-State already this season

Coming up first on the remaining schedule is the September 5th race for the MSCS Sprints and UMP Modifieds. Adult admission for that race is $18, student admission is $15, and children 12 and under will be admitted free. Admission to the last 3 events varies! To check on the availability or cost of reserved seats please call the track in advance of a particular race at 812-768-6025.

BRADHAM LEADS MODS AT TRI-STATE

(Haubstadt, IN - July 31, 2010) Everett Bradham raced to victory in the UMP Open Wheel Modified class which was also competing Saturday night at the Tri-State Speedway. The veteran campaigner was the first modified driver in seven races at the track this season to repeat with a feature win.

Bradham who is from Olney, IL, crossed the finish line ahead of Zach Fair and Dave Beck. Fair and Beck both race out of Petersburg, IN. It was Fair’s third runner-up finish of the season in quest of a victory at the track. Kyle Decker and Brandon McDowell rounded out the top five for the 25 lap feature.

The three preliminary heat races were won by Everett Bradham, Dave Beck, and Brandon McDowell. Twenty drivers competed with 17 cars surviving heat race action intact and able to start the feature.

HOOSIER SPRINT NATIONALS TITLE TO STANBROUGH

(Haubstadt, IN - July 31, 2010) Jon Stanbrough of Brownsburg, IN, won the 40 lap feature Saturday night at Tri-State Speedway. He thereby captured the 2010 Hoosier Sprint Nationals sanctioned by the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series. The victory was worth $5,000. The accompanying title is the third for him this summer in the Hoosier state. It is becoming a phenomenal season for Stanbrough and the Fox Brothers Racing team.

Stanbrough started sixth in the 21 car field. He took the lead from Chase Stockon with a move in the third turn of lap 18. Stockon led all of the first 18 laps. Stanbrough had several cars to pass to catch Stockon who started in the front row. After the race Stanbrough recalled the early going. There were some yellows at the beginning of the race. I had plenty of time. I got by some guys early. Then I was patient when I got to Chase. I watched where he was going and what he was doing. The pass that followed would virtually seal the victory, the 14th for Stanbrough in MSCS competition. He also became the fifth different winner of the Hoosier Sprint Nationals!

As Stanbrough began to pull away a race formed for the remaining top five spots. Brady Short worked to gain positions and moved up into second spot. With laps running out and the appearance of lapped traffic he would not be able to close in on the leader. The two drivers ran one and two from the 34th lap till the finish. Hunter Schuerenberg was third in the Rock Steady Sprinter. He started third and his presence at the front added to the competitiveness of the race. The two drivers finishing second and third were both former winners of the prestigious event.

Blake Fitzpatrick and Chase Stockon, the top two drivers in MSCS points, finished fourth and fifth. Fitzpatrick started last in the feature and took the number 10F from 21st to 4th to become the MSCS Hard Charger of the Race. Stockon has continued to be the series points leader since mid June.

Danny Holtsclaw led the second five across the stripe. Rookie Points leader Jonathan Hendrick was seventh followed by Russ Harper, Critter Malone, and Adam Nigg. Kyle Cummins, in eleventh, was the Wilwood Tuff Brakes Award recipient.

The three heat races were won by Hunter Schuerenberg, Jon Stanbrough, and Kevin Thomas Jr. Fifteen year old Dakota Jackson led Adam Nigg across the line to win the B-Main. Kurt Gross led the first 10 laps of the B only to have his car quit in the quest for one of the remaining transfer spots.

Misfortune also brought out some yellow and red flags during the evening. Kevin Thomas Jr. flipped in turn one on lap 14 of the feature. The field was restarting following a yellow to allow Jon Sciscoes car to be removed from the track after it had stopped. Another yellow two laps earlier was for a spin by Mark Perry III. The largest pileup occurred in the B-Main on the backstretch involving at least 5 cars. Four of those cars were too damaged to continue. D.J. Ott, Randy Bateman, J.C. Bland, and Jeff Bland Jr. would be finished driving for the evening.

The Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series will be back in action on Sunday night September 5th for a Labor Day Weekend special at Tri-State Speedway. The feature will pay $3,000 to win! The UMP Modifieds will also be on that race card.

FITZPATRICK USAC VICTOR, STANBROUGH THE CHAMPION

(Haubstadt, IN - July 17) Blake Fitzpatrick of West Terre Haute, IN, won the 30 lap AMSOIL USAC Sprint Car feature Saturday night at Tri-State Speedway. Fitzpatrick started fifth in the 24 car field and moved quickly up to third behind leader Dave Darland and Jon Stanbrough. Midway through the event Fitzpatrick got by Stanbrough to become the challenger. Fitzpatrick worked lap after lap to cut into the slim lead Darland was protecting. On lap 27 Fitzpatrick completed the pass. Stanbrough would follow dropping Darland to third in an exciting, unpredictable finish.

Blake Fitzpatrick had his first USAC Sprint Car victory and it came at the finale of Indiana Sprint Week. He was in the John Fitzpatrick owned First Financial Bank sponsored sprinter competing with Bubby Jones as the crew chief. The victory was worth $5,000 and certainly the best of his four top ten finishes during the mid season series.

The victory lane ceremony was twofold. Jon Stanbrough was also honored as the 2010 Indiana Sprint Week Champion. During the course of the night he had made up a 6 to 9 point deficit to Levi Jones. It had been an up and down points battle. Those were Stanbroughs words post race. We kept pounding dirt, never gave up, won some races, and capitalized on all that to pull it out. Then he added, It takes a team to win races. That team includes the Fox Brothers, Steve and Brad.

The runner-up for Indiana Sprint Week in points was Levi Jones. Unfortunately he was involved in the pileup on the front straightaway with only 1 lap scored in the feature. His car flipped and repairs would not be possible. That accident also took Daron Clayton out of competition and put Brady Short at the tail of the field after a quick trip to the pits. Bryan Clauson would finish third in sprint week points. He placed fourth in the feature Saturday night after making steady progress from deep in the pack.

Damion Gardner finished in fifth. Tracy Hines, Kurt Gross, Chris Windom, Hunter Schuerenberg, and Danny Holtsclaw rounded out the top ten. Fourth through eighth was a race in itself with constant challenges. Fast qualifier Justin Grant was among the drivers who dropped out of the feature. However, Grant was third in the nights B-Main won by Brady Short. Hud Cone flipped in turn three on the final lap of the B as two or three cars battled for a sixth and final transfer spot. The impact sent a wheel out of the track, across the county road, and deep into an adjacent field.

The four preliminary heat races were won by Levi Jones, Hunter Schuerenberg, rookie Ricky Williams, and Kurt Gross. The fourth heat proved to be the most difficult to complete with recalled starts followed by spins and accidents.

Trent Young of Hopkinsville, KY, picked up the feature victory in UMP Open Wheel Modified competition. Young started on the outside of the front row in his Spec Racing/Bandit Race Car by virtue of his heat race victory and took command of the 17 car field. He led the entire 25 laps!

Young was excited about the win. It was a great night! Just amazing! This is only our fourth time to race here, just the second time this year. Young became the sixth different winner in six nights of modified racing this season at the speedway.

Second through sixth place positions for the feature remained in question. Paul Miles, Everett Bradham and Levi Kissinger worked to get by Brandon McDowell to finish second, third , and fourth respectively. McDowell, the first heat winner, would finish fifth. Shawn Cates would lead the second five across the stripe. A red flag was needed on lap 22 when Kelly Aldrich rolled his car in turn four.

The open wheel modified cars will be on the race card Saturday night July 31st when Tri-State Speedway presents the 6th annual Hoosier Sprint Nationals featuring the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series. The sprints will be competing for a top prize of $5,000.

STANBROUGH TAKES TRI-STATE SALUTE

Haubstadt, IN - July 3, 2010. Jon Stanbrough swept the show at the Independence Salute Saturday night at Tri-State Speedway. The Brownsburg, IN, driver had the Fox Brothers/Jarvis Enterprises sprinter at the front of the pack during each of the 25 laps in the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car feature. The victory was worth $2,500.

Stanbrough acknowledged in the post race interview that the victory was his 150th. The crowd assembled witnessed another milestone in a sprint car racing career that has spanned 21 years. The win was his second of the season and number thirteen overall in MSCS competition. Jon Stanbrough took time to thank the fans for attending and his race team members as well as the track crew for all the effort and hard work. He continued. It was great to pull out a win! I have been second every time I have raced here this year. I am happy to get it here.

Stanbrough started on the outside of the front row in the feature alongside another heat race winner Hud Cone. Chase Stockon would quickly separate the two and then continue in the runner-up spot and in hot pursuit for the next 20 laps. Brady Short also moved up into contention as did Kyle Cummins. The race developing would be for second spot! The last lap or two became opportunistic and positions changed. Kyle Cummins took second and his best finish so far this year. Brady Short retained third. Hud Cone regained a spot to finish fourth. Blake Fitzpatrick, the heat one winner, picked up fifth place and Chase Stockon wound up sixth. Stockon and Fitzpatrick entered the event one and two in MSCS points.

The feature was slowed 3 times. There was a spin on lap 9, a three car pileup on lap 11, and a final incident on lap 16. Drivers involved in the pile-up were Terry Babb whose sprint car ended up backwards on the car driven by Chris Urish. J.C. Bland was also involved. The last caution was for Chris Windom in turn four. Windom was able to restart and had been running third in the feature. One of the hardest impacts of the evening was a flip during the third heat that took Jeff Bland Jr. s car out of competition for the rest of the race program.

In accompanying action, veteran Everett Bradham won the feature for the UMP Modifeds to become the fifth different winner in five events. Bradham guided a new car through its initial paces. Zach Fair finished second for the second time this season. Ed Shamhart, Dave Beck and Ronnie Falloway rounded out the top five. The two heats were won by Bradham and Shamhart.

The next race for the Midwest Sprint Car Series will be the Hoosier Sprint Nationals at Tri-State Speedway on July 31st. The feature for the sprints will pay $5,000 to win! The modified cars will be on the race card that night and in two weeks when the USAC Sprints make their Indiana Sprint Week visit to Tri-State Speedway. .

O’NEAL AND SWEENEY IN A UMP DOUBLEHEADER AT TRI-STATE

Haubstadt, IN - June 27, 2010. Don O’Neal, of Martinsville, IN, won the UMP Dirt Car Summernationals event at Tri-State Speedway Sunday evening. O’Neal started on the pole after winning the first heat race but spent most of the 40 lap distance in pursuit of Jason Feger. Feger started alongside O’Neal in row one and took advantage of the opportunity to prove once again why he is regarded as the High Side Hustler. He was fast using a wide line around the quarter mile track.

O’Neal began reeling Feger in after both drivers finally cleared a pack of 3 cars racing for position and about to go down a lap. The race suddenly appeared to be up for grabs on lap 36 as O’Neal was working under the leader. Feger got a little too high. Then the yellow came out for another incident. Ryan Unsicker, who had been running as high as third in the feature, went pit-side to replace a flat tire and the race was quickly back underway.

Don O’Neal would lead the last three laps to take his second win of the 2010 Summernationals tour. His words in victory lane summed it up! “I didn’t think that I could catch him. I thought I was going to run out of laps.” Jason Feger would finish second despite the visible damage sustained to the right quarter panel of his dirt car. Seven of the fourteen cars that finished showed evidence of brushes with the walls or each other.

Dennis Erb Jr. finished third with Shannon Babb fourth. Erb worked hard to place in the top five. Babb, who was the top qualifier for the program, turned a spin into a full 360 early in the race and rejoined the field without causing a yellow flag. Although he fell back a number of spots, he regained all the lost positions but one. Michigan driver Jeep Van Wormer was fifth. Jack Sullivan, Brian Shirley, Dillon White, Rodney Melvin, and Ryan Unzicker rounded out the top ten. Sullivan who had won the night before in Tennessee took the second late model heat while Feger won the third heat for the 28 entries.

Two earlier caution flags were needed during the feature. One was for a crash involving Steve Casebolt and Joe Morris on the front stretch. That misfortune led to another when 3 cars became entangled during the restart. Billy Moyer Jr. retired to the pits following that incident in turn four. Brian Shirley won the B-Main.
____________________________

The UMP Open Wheel Modifieds raced in the final event on the program. Randle Sweeney of Clifty, KY, picked up his first feature win of the season at Tri-State Speedway. Sweeney jumped out to an early lead with Clint DeMoss moving up to make it a two car race over the final 20 laps. Trent Young emerged from a pack of 4 cars that stayed in close competition to collect third. Everett Bradham took fourth, with Ronnie Falloway fifth, and Levi Kissenger sixth to resolve the battle for third and fourth that was 3 and 4 wide early in the event.

Will Krup, Randle Sweeney, and Everett Bradham won the three heats for the modified classs. Dave Beck and Robert Smith were one and two in the B-Main. The UMP Modifieds will be in action again this Saturday July 3rd. The Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series will be running for $2,500 to win that night in the Independence Salute!

JEFF BLAND JR. MAKES IT TWO IN A ROW AT TRI-STATE SPEEDWAY

Haubstadt, IN. - June 20, 2010. Jeff Bland Jr. took the checkered flag first in a fight to the finish Sunday Night in the special Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series event on Father’s Day at Tri-State Speedway. Bland made his move in traffic on the final lap, passed leader Brady Short in the third turn, and then won the race to the finish line. The two were battling for position when they came upon Randy Bateman who was about to be lapped. They both managed to get by Bateman and the snap decisions made to allow that to happen provided a thrilling finish.

The victory was Bland’s second MSCS win in a row at Tri-State Speedway. The 21 year old sprint car chauffeur is from Springville, IN. The Bland Racing LLC Sprinter is sponsored by Servpro and Auto Credit. A new sponsor for the team is Honey Baked Ham. Jeff relayed that information in the post race interview. “Lapped traffic helped me out a lot.” Bland continued, “You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.”

The 25 lap feature was all about what sprint car racers have to do - get wheel to wheel and stand on the gas! The first 19 laps with 22 cars starting was completely under the green. Hunter Schuerenberg took off with Brady Short and Damion Gardner in line behind. Short made a move to take the lead in the first turn. The result was wheel over wheel as the two leaders managed to get their cars back on all four wheels. Schuerenberg restarted but took it to his pit. Short was able to keep his car moving and led the field to the green on the restart.

Damion Gardner would finish third behind Bland and Short. Gardner, Bland, and Kurt Gross had won the qualifying heats. MSCS Points leader Chase Stockon was fourth and Blake Fitzpatrich finished fifth. The second five included Robert Ballou, Gross, Terry Babb, Kyle Cummins, and Bub Cummings. Aric Gentry, in eleventh place at the finish, received the Wilwood Tuff Brakes Award. Rookie Jonathan Hendrick was the MSCS Hard Charger of the Race. He moved up a total of nine spots in the feature. Hendrick started at the back of the field after making lengthy repairs in the pits. The damage was the result of tagging the wall in his heat race.

The next MSCS event on the 2010 schedule will also be at Tri-State Speedway. The Independence Salute will be held Saturday night July 3rd and pay $2,500 to win.

Story & coverage as provided by MSCS

The two drivers are among the Kentucky modified drivers that frequent Tri-State Speedway. Dave Beck, Clint DeMoss, and Ed Shamhart rounded out the top five. Falloway and Shamhart won the other two heat races. Shawn Cates took the B-Main.

The UMP Modifieds will be in action next Sunday June 27th when the Late Model Summernationals will be held at Tri-State Speedway and again on a card with MSCS on July 3rd. The three modified features held at Tri-State Speedway so far this season have produced three different winners!

JEFF BLAND JR. PREVAILS IN KISS - MSCS ACTION

Haubstadt, IN - June 5, 2010.  Jeff Bland Jr., of Springville, IN, won the 30 lap KISS & MSCS sprint car feature Saturday night at the Tri-State Speedway.  This event, which was first presented at Tri-State Speedway in 2007, was organized to provide race fans with an opportunity to witness a race matching the very best driving talent of two established non-wing sprint car racing series.

Jeff Bland Jr. earned $4,000 for the victory, his second career victory in MSCS competition.  He was at the wheel of the Bland Racing Servpro Auto Credit Sprinter.  In victory lane Bland was pleased with the car's performance.  "The car was good.  I knew it was good from the start."  Bland started fifth in a strong field of 20 cars.  Moving up would prove to be a tough road.  He passed Brady Short on lap 7, Kurt Gross on lap 10, and then Jon Stanbrough in lapped traffic about lap 20.  Bland was making steady progress.

Robert Ballou held the lead for most of the race.  He was working at a torrid pace in front after taking the lead from Daron Clayton on lap 3.  By lap 20 a renewed battle for the lead developed with four or five cars in tight formation.  Bland was challenging and Ballou was fighting to hold him off.  Ballou's car flipped at the top of turns one and two and came down into traffic.  Daron Clayton's car was also damaged as drivers tried to miss Ballou's car.  Clayton had been running fifth in the front pack.  Those two damaged cars were removed to the pits with four laps to go.

Jon Stanbrough, who entered the race as the KISS points leader, finished second in the feature.  He was followed by Brady Short, Hunter Schuerenberg, and Billy Puterbaugh.  Chase Stockon headed the second five which included Ted Hines, Jonathan Vennard, Mark Perry III, and Daron Clayton.  Stanbrough, Schuerenberg, Short, Puterbaugh, and Hines were in the top 5 in KISS points entering the event and they claimed five of the top seven spots in the feature.

The heat races were won by Jon Stanbrough, Brady Short, and Daron Clayton.  The three heat winners received $100 from the Mike Cunningham family.  The family also added $3500 to the overall purse in his memory.  A.J. Anderson won the B-Main with Mark Perry III second.  Perry earned the MSCS Hard Charger of the Race award by improving 8 spots in the A-Main.  Twenty-seven sprints were in the pits to compete.

Levi Kissinger won the 25 lap UMP Open Wheel Modified feature Saturday night at Tri-State Speedway. Kissinger’s winning race car was sponsored by V&V Excavating and Ted Brown’s Quality Paint & Body Shop.

Kissinger dueled second heat winner Dave Beck to the finish in a race between two comparably fast cars. Zac Fair, Clint DeMoss, and Brandon McDowell rounded out the top five for the feature. Clint DeMoss won the first heat. All the cars competing in the heats were eligible to transfer to the feature. Feature: Levi Kissinger, Dave Beck, Zach Fair, Clint Demoss, Brandon McDowell, Will Krup, Tyler Weiss, Kyle Decker, Jeremy Berg, Cullen Goodman, Everett Bradham, Robert Smith, Wes Harms, Stan Beadles.

SHORT ADDS ANOTHER VICTORY

By Eldon Butcher

Haubstadt, IN - May 30, 2010. Brady Short captured the 30 lap Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series feature Sunday night at Tri-State Speedway. Short’s victory was the second of the weekend in MSCS competition. The Memorial Weekend Classic was worth $3,000 to the winner. It was his fifth career win in MSCS competition moving him up to seventh on the All Time Winner’s List.

Jon Stanbrough finished a close second after assuming the challenger’s role on lap 14. Stanbrough made a valiant effort but could not find the opportunity he needed anywhere on the high banks. Kurt Gross finished third and at the head of a pack of 5 to 6 closely matched cars that fought for position throughout the event. Jeff Bland Jr. took fourth with Kyle Cummins claiming fifth. Bland was the MSCS Hard Charger of the Race with a determined drive forward from 17th on the grid.

Dickie Gaines finished sixth in a dash to the line with Chase Stockon. Rookie Jonathan Hendrick was eighth followed by Hunter Schuerenberg and Danny Holtsclaw. The fact that Schuerenberg was able to complete the feature at all was short of a miracle. He was able to get the front axel of his car replaced in the work area in time to rejoin the field. The work was completed during a red flag delay. That red was needed on lap four when Blake Fitzpatrick flipped entering turn three. Fitzpatrick and Schuerenberg were the leaders at the time.

Dakota Jackson was the Wilwood Tuff Brakes Award recipient. The fourteen year old newcomer finished in 11th spot. Twelve cars were all that were still running at the finish.

The presence of 34 sprint cars provided fans with 4 heat races. Jon Stanbrough captured the first heat with Daron Clayton coming from the tail to finish second. Hunter Schuerenberg won the second heat. Then a storm moved over the speedway dropping heavy rain across the grounds and saturating the speedway. After a lengthy delay to rework and then prep the track for racing, Brady Short and Blake Fitzpatrick took victories in the final two qualifying heats. Jeff Bland Jr. won the B-Main with Hud Cone driving from deep in a 16 car field to finish second. Five cars were involved in an accident during the B as the excitement built and drivers raced to earn 1 of 4 final spots in the A.

The next MSCS race is set for Saturday night June 5th and marks that one time each season that the Midwest Sprint Car Series and the King of Indiana Sprint Series combine forces and driving talent to present one very special show.

MODIFIED ACTION

Clint Demoss won the UMP Open Wheel Modified feature. A strong field of 27 cars
was on hand for their first race of this season at Tri-State Speedway. Zach Fair finished second with Everett Bradham, Dave Beck, and Ronnie Falloway rounding out the top five in the main event. Paul Miles won the B-Main. Earlier in the program Everett Bradham, Brandon Dierlam, and Clint DeMoss were victors in the three heats held.

JUNE KISS/MSCS RACE RECEIVES A BOOST

Haubstadt, IN - May 21. In a news release made public today Tri-State Speedway is pleased to announce that the co-sanctioned King of Indiana Sprint Series and Midwest Sprint Car Series event scheduled for Saturday June 5th will have additional money added to the purse. Standard KISS purses pay $2,500 to win and $250 to start. This year a contribution of $3500 has been provided to the Speedway with a request that the money be added to boost the purse. That will increase the overall purse by over 30%.

The additional money is being donated in the memory of the late Mike Cunningham. A short explanation from the Cunningham family noted that Mike was an avid sprint car fan and that he had attended every race at Tri-State Speedway. He lost his life in a tragic traffic accident 2 years ago north of the track on Highway 41.

The increase in the nights purse will be spread across the 20 car starting field for the KISS/MSCS feature event. The feature winner will receive an additional $1,500 to create a big $4,000 payday for that driver. The race will also pay $400 to start. As a matter of fact, drivers finishing eleventh on back through the field will all receive $400.

CLAUSON IN ANOTHER MAJOR WIN
By Eldon Butcher

Haubstadt, IN - May 8. Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, IN, won the 58th running of the Hut 100 Saturday night at the Tri-State Speedway. The event was co-sanctioned with USAC and POWRi joining forces to provide the entries. Clauson put the Corey Tucker Racing/BCI Midget into the lead on the 88th lap after a spirited battle with Brad Kuhn and held off Jerry Coons Jr. for the victory. The last time Clauson raced at Haubstadt in September of 2009 he collected $10,000 in winning the Haubstadt Hustler Sprint 50.

Clauson and Kuhn dominated the race with Kuhn leading the first lap and then for an extended period of 83 laps after retaking the lead from Clauson who had led laps 2, 3, and 4. Kuhn pulled away to a straightaway lead and at one point lapped 5 cars in one swoop off the second turn. Fortunately Clauson was able to work through that lapped traffic before the next yellow appeared and he was in position to challenge the leader once again. Clauson took the race to Kuhn alternating challenges for the lead between the fourth turn and the second turn and pulling up alongside Kuhn lap after lap until he accomplished his mission.

Jerry Coons Jr. then moved up to finish second behind Clauson. Brad Kuhn fell off the pace to drop out of the top ten. Caleb Armstrong took the third and the final podium spot for the post race awards after a battle with Shane Hmiel. Zach Daum was fifth.

Clauson was fast having lead all qualifiers with a 13.629 which was a brand new track record. After the feature Clauson described his race car as “a Rocket Ship.” A talented field of drivers took advantage of track conditions and improving technology to continually lower the old mark of 15.322 at the speedway which had stood since the late 70’s. In all 8 other drivers set a new mark only to have it be lowered by a faster run with Clauson’s run late in the qualifying order becoming the official new track record.

The co-sanctioning provided the best opportunity for the top midget drivers in the nation to appear. Thirty-three midgets took the green flag for the feature. Eleven rows, tightly bunched, made for a spectacular start on the quarter mile oval. The first three rows of the feature field were locked in following time trials and started straight up. The other 24 starters earned positions in two qualifying races.
The two qualifiers constituted the only preliminary events for the midgets. Those two races were won by Alex Bowman and Tracy Hines. Kellen Conover flipped during the first qualifier. Levi Roberts flipped on the 5th lap of the feature.

The POWRi Micro Sprints competed in a 20 lap feature to conclude the program. Trenton Beckinger started on the pole and sped away to take his first POWRi victory. Travis Senter and Nic Harris were second and third. Three consecutive yellow flags in an effort to complete lap 11 proved to be last obstacle and the racers eased through the final laps.

The five heat races went to Nic Harris, Dereck King, Travis Senter, Logan Faucon, and Joe B. Miller. Jordan Campbell and Mike Terry won the semis.
